Stacking The Shelves and Weekly Wrap #020

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical stores or online bookshops, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course eBooks. Hosted by Tyngas Reviews.

I want to start by apologising to everyone who's commented, read and emailed over the past fortnight, I haven't been online much and with good reason. After three years of failed garden attempts, we've finally landscaped something that resembles a backyard. Hooray! Now that the main bulk of our project is done, I'll be able to start visiting blogs again.

'Round The Blogs

●  Jeann and Chiara, two of my favorite bloggers, got together and discussed the Divergent movie. Part one you can find on Happy Indulgence and part two is on Chiara's blog over at Books for a Delicate Eternity. But be warned, Theo James indulges in lip licking.
●  Check out Dre's post over at Sporadic Reads, where a massive dystopian box set has just been released for less than the price of a loaf of bread. While you're there, check out her first DNF review, you can't blame her when you see which book was the culprit.
●  Keeping in with the theme, Brittany over at Nice Girls Read Books tells us why she won't post DNF reviews.
●  Cait over at The Notebook Sisters wants The Hunger Games comparisons to stop.
●  Larissa at YA Midnight Reads wants to know your thoughts on realistic and diverse representations in YA.

Publisher Paperbacks

The Treatment by Suzanne Young. I absolutely loved book one, The Program and have eagerly been awaiting this release. This series brilliantly portrays how adults and parents fail to relate to their teens. A mix of science fiction, romance and one girl's plight to fight the system. Can't wait to start. Thank you to Simon and Schuster Australia.

and The Peculiars by Maureen Doyle McQuerry. That cover is divine! A mix of steampunk, romance, science fiction and historical, it sounds like a brilliant a quirky coming of age story. Thank you to Thames and Hudson.

Digital Review Copies

The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski. This. Is. Brilliant. As soon as I was approved on Netgalley, I begun reading this almost instantly. The style of writing is incredibly engaging and I love main character Kestrel's quiet defiance. Thank you to Bloomsbury, who allowed me to review an eCopy after the paperback review copy was lost in the mail.

Gifted

In our brilliant Aussie YA Bloggers group, Joy from Thoughts by J organised a secret Easter book bunny. So during the week I learned that the ever fabulous Melanie over at YA Midnight Reads was stuck being my secret bunny. But she did brilliantly and bought me Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry. As far as I know, my gift for the blogger I drew hasn't arrived as yet, as I couldn't find the specific book in Australia. But never fear, your bunny gift should more than make up for the delay. Once they receive their parcel, I'll announce who I purchased for.

  2. I had to stop taking part in these Easter Bunny/Secret Santa things because despite reading UF, horror and dystopian, I always ended up with romance and erotic PNR books which I don't read! Glad your gift was better! Happy reading!

    1. Oh no, you would have thought they'd at least research what kind of genres you typically read. What we did was add a Bunny shelf to our Goodreads and added a couple of books for our secret bunny to choose from. That way we ended up with something we really wanted. I'm looking forward to the blogger I drew receiving their book, I bought a different edition to what they had listed, so fingers crossed it's a nice surprise.

    1. I loved the discussion post, it was brilliant, all those Theo James images didn't hurt either. Have you received your bunny gift yet Jeann? I think a few of us bought from The Book Depository, so it might be delayed too.

    1. I tend to kill them too Sophia, suppose I should have done more research before we begun our first attempt. Never having to establish a garden before, it's all been trial and error. Still have heaps to do, but the most expensive bulk of it is now done. Hooray!

I love steampunk too, after reading The Masque of the Red Death, I really started to get into it and can't wait to begin The Peculiars.

  10. Hooray for finishing your garden project! We've been at our place for about 3 years and we're not 100% happy with the state of our backyard either, but it's just so much work! :/
