Stacking The Shelves and Weekly Wrap #22

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical stores or online bookshops, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course eBooks. Hosted by Tyngas Reviews.

News

●  I'm currently holding several giveaways, and my very first Retweet to win. Check out my Tweet and image in the side bar to your right, retweet and a winner will be chosen at random. Please note, it's only open to Australian entrants.
●  If twitter isn't your thing, I'm giving away a bonus two copies of The Year of The Rat by Clare Furniss on my blog. Check out the giveaway Here. Sadly, it's only open to Aussies again.
●  I'm also giving away a copy of Alexander Altmann A10567 Here. This book is brilliant and based on a true story. An emotional contemporary in which Aussies have a chance to win a copy. I may even throw in an extra new book as well. I'll surprise the winner.

Beyond the Books

Each week, a new awesome blogger that blogs beyond the books will be featured. This week Gina from Behind The Pages shows us her bookmarks. I asked Gina how her creativity came about.
How many of you have a ton of bookmarks from online shops you buy from? Booktopia and Book Depository, anyone? Most of these just sit on my desk in one giant pile. Sure, I secretly give them out to anyone who borrows books, I even throw some of them away because there are so many. But these aren't pretty. I am the biggest sucker for a gorgeous cover, and I feel bad when I give a gorgeous book a stock standard bookmark (books have feelings too!) Even though I won't complain about any kind of bookmark (hey, back in the day before online shopping, I used to use scrap paper and clean tissues folded up neatly), I desperately wanted to have something to match the book I was reading, especially if it was a favourite series. Most days I would ask everyone's best friend, Google, to try and find me some actual book bookmarks. Nothing came up, not even on other blogs! At this point in time I was actually wanting to add something special and unique to my blog, and the light above my head came on. I'm pretty sure I said something along the lines of, 'stuff it, I'll just make them myself, and put them on my blog for others who are like me and want proper bookmarks.' Voila! Bookmarks!
And best of all, Gina's bookmarks are FREE. You can find her complete list Here, but check out some of my favourites: The Fault in our Stars, City of Bones Movie, Ink, Unhinged (absolutely in love with this one) and These Broken Stars.

Publisher Paperbacks

Chasing Stars by Helen Douglas. Book two in the After Eden series. Thank you to the lovely Bloomsbury Australia.
Cracked by Clare Strahan. I'm lucky enough to be part of the Allen and Unwin promotion and will be interviewing Clare next month.
Allen and Unwin spoilt me this month with Rebel by Amy Tintera, which I'm currently reading and loving. And The Word Ghost by Christine Paige. I simply love that cover.

Purchased Paperbacks

Bought in an online sale. If you want to find out more, please check them out on Goodreads.

Gifted, Swapped or Traded

Gifted from the fabulous Tez over at Tez Says. Tez is a member of our incredible Goodreads Australian YA Bloggers group. To learn more about the group and members, check out the group blog at WordPress.

Phew, I need a nap. Hit me up with your news and new editions this week.

  1. Those bookmarks...*drools*

I got Rebel as well! I lent my copy of Reboot out to someone, and haven't actually read it yet, so I'll have to get onto that. Cracked looks fantastic, I'll definitely look out for your review :)

    1. They're awesome aren't they, Gina's so incredibly talented.

You must read it Emily, if you enjoy science fiction and a rebellion against an oppressive regime, you'll love this one as much as I do. Almost finished Rebel, looking forward to moving onto Cracked next.

    1. Last week it was from Booktopia, this week, Basement Books in Sydney. They have random books from less than a dollar, so bought a whole heap. There's more than what's up there, but also received a big order from The Book Depository as well, and didn't want to overwhelm page load times.

I'll post them up next Saturday.

I've got to stop buying, there's no change I'll ever get around to reading all these books. I might have to do a satchel giveaway soon.

    2. Awesome, Basement Books is a good one. That is sooo cheap. Stop buying, what is this?! Orrr you can just send them my way ;)

Thanks Joy, and thanks for checking out my stack *sniggers*

  4. Ooooh, Possessed looks so cool, even if it looks creepy :D

I love free bookmarks, but honestly, If I have one, i rarely use it. I tend to lose them so I'm careful with it. :D

    1. I'm terrible with bookmarks too Jules, I lose them, spill drinks on them, write on them when I can find a scrap of paper. That's what I need, a plain laminated one that I can write on and rub off. It'll be protected from the clumsy drink spillage too.

Does such an awesome product exist?

  5. Now I know what you mean about a big post Kelly! This is a winner! Possessed and The Word Ghost look really really wonderful you lucky duck!
    Have fun reading them!

    1. It felt like it took forever Katie. Possessed is actually an old book that's been rebranded. Hopefully I'll be able to get around to reading it soon. I'm really looking forward to reading Fateful the most, out of all the bargains I picked up. It's a Titanic retelling.

  6. SO AWESOME that you're supporting bloggers, and that you had your first RT to win! :D And yayyyy for new books! Possessed has a gorgeous cover. I've been really curious about Fateful and Fury, so I'll wait for your thoughts on those. I've also seen mixed reviews for Deep Blue, so let me know what you think! =) Happy reading, Kelly! <3

    1. Thanks Aimee, I actually have you and your Deadly Darlings lined up for next weekends post. I can't wait to start Fateful, it's the only Titanic based YA I've seen. I love anything to do with disasters and couldn't help myself when I seen this one on sale.

  7. I wish I had bookmarks. Would you believe that I actually have none that I can use? Haha. Every time I order from Depository, they never send me anything save for the book I ordered. I may make my own customized one (well, I'm having my really artistic friend make it :D ). In any case, I wish I could join your giveaways, but alas, I am not an Aussi /o\ Any chance you'll make one international soon? ;)

    1. Just between us Faye, I'm hoping to hold an international one soon, just waiting for my Aussie only ones to finish. I wish I could offer international giveaways more often, but sadly the postage rates in Australia are verging on ridiculous. But with The Book Depository free shipping to most countries, I'll try to host a one every now and then.

  8. I have 2 books to finish before I can start Rebel. *cries piteously* I JUST WANNA READ IT NOW. But I'm trying to be good, see? Organised and all that fun stuff. Oh those bookmarks by Gina are gorgeous. She's hugely talented. Totally unfair. lol Just kidding. ;)

I've downloaded so many of her beauties, love THE MOTH one, absolutely my favourite.

  9. Oohh the bookmarks are crazy awesome! But i have to admit, even though I like hoarding bookmarks, I rarely use them, even when I read books. I tend to just use random pieces of paper lying here and there to bookmark my pages :/

I love your haul of books this week! ENJOY<333

    1. Random pieces of paper? Have you ever used something important as a bookmark, thinking it was just scrap paper? I can imagine half your books having important phone messages, or appointments all though them on scrap pieces, with the family wondering why they're not getting any of their messages.

  10. Fateful - Did that really say it's about WEREWOLVES and the TITANIC? Sounds awesome! And the cover for the Word Ghost is so beautiful. Probably one that would go down on my all time favourite covers list!.

    Gina's bookmarks are GORGEOUS! :)

Hope you enjoy reading though your haul, Kelly!

    1. Yes, yes it did *giggles* It sounds incredibly ridiculous doesn't it. But it's the Titanic, if anything, I'm curious to see how the author pulls it off really. I love the cover too, so simplistic, but so whimsical.

  11. Wow! What a GREAT haul Kelly! <3 I haven't heard of any of these, so I'm excited to see what you think of them! :D And thanks so much for taking the time to share the link to Gina's bookmarks! I definitely need some more bookmarks, so it's awesome to find a site with so many great ones like that!

    Happy reading! <3

    1. My pleasure Zoe, wanted to share Gina's talent, she's far too modest herself.

I hadn't heard of quite a few of them either, but that's the brilliant thing with purchasing online, I can have the Goodreads tab open and see each synopsis to see if it sounds like something I'd read.

    1. Cracked is really awesome so far, the MC Clover is brilliant. I think you should read Fateful first, then I'll know whether or not I should bother. The premise sounds stupid, but it's the Titanic, I just couldn't pass it up. I hope at least it's half decent. Thanks for stopping by Mands.

  13. Fateful was a pretty decent read. Ooh I got Rebel, Cracked and Chasing Stars as well. It's weird because I absolutely detested After Eden

    Enjoy your pretties! <33

  17. YAY for Rebel! I'm still hyper over this book. Thank you so so so so so much for featuring my bookmarks! The one thing that I admit to myself if a good idea about them, is that if you tend to loose bookmarks, these are free so you can just print them again! And I owe you one for making me see Basement Books! Wasn't sure if I should have gotten Fury, I had heard a LOT of mixed things about it.... most on the negative side, but one day I will give it a go :) If you get to review it, I'll be waiting... ok, I'll be stalking :)
