Fate isn’t something to mess with… And now, neither is Alex.
Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods, and Alex herself, to bring her back.
The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole 'an Apollyon can’t be killed' theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.
Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… Or she might become the God Killer herself.
Alex has awakened and the two Apollyon's now share a connection. Seth has taken over Alex while she is being held captive, for her own safety, only Seth is holding her mind captive and Alex needs to break their bond, or risk the God's interfering.
The world has turned to chaos, supposedly natural disasters, terrorist attacks with a high mortality rate. The God's are angry and some want nothing more them to see Alex killed. Once Seth takes her power to fuel his own, no one can supposedly stop the god killer from taking them all out. But Seth is working far beyond his means as the first, someone is helping him.
Aiden will never give up on Alex. He'll do everything within his power to protect her. He needs to reach her, only she can break the bond with Seth.
Seth and Lucien claim to want to change the world. To free the half bloods from servitude and so that both full and half bloods are equals and that the God's rule once again. Alex needs to travel through the underworld, to find the only other Apollyon that can help her. She won't be able to run from Seth forever, eventually he is going to find her and she'll need to learn how to drain his power before he kills her... Or vice versa.
I was probably one of the last readers to begin the Covenant series, at the time, I was slowly running out of reading material. I almost instantly liked the character of Alex, she's sassy, intelligent, and determined. She isn't a damsel in distress by any means. And Aiden? Aiden seems to be the ultimate 'book boyfriend' to many a female reader.
Fans of Seth may find Apollyon hard to stomach, but all is not lost, through the mayhem we see glimpses of the old sarcastic, arrogant and flirtatious Seth. Apollyon sets the reader up for an epic showdown in the fifth book in the series.
