Rise: An Eve Novel by Anna Carey

How far will you go when you have nothing left to lose?

When she lost her soul mate, Caleb, Eve felt like her world had ended. Trapped in the palace, forced to play the part of the happy, patriotic princess of The New America, and the blushing bride of her father's top adviser, Eve's whole life is a lie. The only thing that keeps her going is Caleb's memory, and the revolution he started.

Now, Eve is taking over where Caleb left off. With the help of Moss, an undercover subversive in the King's court, she plots to take down The New America, beginning with the capital, the City of Sand. Will Eve be able to bring about a new, free world when she's called upon to perform the ultimate act of rebellion... Killing her father?

In Rise, Eve must choose who to leave behind, who to save, and who to fight as Anna Carey's epic tale of romance and sacrifice in the chilling dystopia of The New America comes to a stunning conclusion

Welcome to the New America. The rebels are finally attacking the city, liberating the citizens and waiting for the colonies to arrive. Eve is living with Charles, a marriage of convenience to keep herself safe. After the devastating loss of Caleb, she now has something to live for.
The rebel liberators are relying on Eve to take the life of her father, the reining king. To allow the colonies to take over the city and to establish a democracy and elect their first president in seventeen years.

When the rebels storm the city prematurely, chaos erupts and Eve is caught fighting for the cause. She flees the city with Chloe in tow, liberating girls held in the hospitals from the former schools used as prisons, where young women are forced to produce children to repopulate the city.

Eve knows she'll never be able to stop running, she won't put the women's camp at risk. She needs to return to the chaos, to return to her city under siege and where freedom will reign.

Incredible. I love the dystopian world that Eve resides in, where the population live in fear, where girls are treated as inferior and where a naive girl can grow into a tough and fearless heroine. As far as series conclusions stand, this one is brilliant. Eve is cold and calculating but never loses her humility. The revolution comes to an epic final struggle for the citizens ruled with an iron fist. Be prepared for executions and a few heart stopping moments.

The final chapter left me feeling somewhat incomplete. It wasn't surprising, but lacked the emotion that you so desperately need after the turmoil during the finale. I flipped the Kindle page forward, then back again, then forward twice again, no epilogue. Let me just announce for the record, if a book has a sudden ending, I need an epilogue. If I had a permanent marker on me at the time, no doubt I would have scribbled my own across the Kindle screen in my exhausted deliria.
