Exposure by Christina Mobley

Hidden behind a continuous storm, in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle, there is a secret and powerful place. Element Island’s mysteries are as great as its beauty. Ava Vangeretta’s life changed forever after she arrived on the island; she became the True Elementris.

Now Ava is faced with a new challenge. The powerful gifts protected by those born of the element could be revealed. Temptation gives new life to an old curse, danger draws near, and the lines between friend and enemy are blurred as secrets are revealed. Ava will do whatever it takes to protect those she loves, but can she prevent exposure

After defeating Lorena, the last true Elementris, Ava has now been relegated to the island for her own protection. There is a new chapter of those who use dark magic hunting her and they'll stop at nothing to expose the Elementris, the island, and those Ava will fight to protect. Ava has been the true Elementris for some time now, but still struggling to find her way. Alec has left the island to hunt for those that wish Ava harm, and retrieve Lyssa, the teen hell bent on exposing them all for profit.

Lyssa is a Elementris of water, but has been abusing her gift. She has exposed the secrets of those born to the element and with her keeper missing, clutch guard Thomas is sent to keep her out of trouble, he never expected to fall for her in the process.

Mortal Blake Sanders is a diver and explorer. He's on a mission to find Elementris island. Ava haunts his dreams and he is falling under the deadly Vangeretta curse. When he washes up upon the island a second time, he has discovered the 'first five' shipwreck. The Elementris history seems to delve deeper than those of the council would care to admit.

The Vangeretta Curse series is unique series, likened to that of a cross between Hex Hall and the Sweetest Dark. Ava is essentially Mother Nature, and it is her role to balance the weather around the world, sending rain to dry parched land and sunshine to gloomy skies. She rules others born of the element, where every seven years, five babies born on the same day and at the exact same time are bound by the gifts of the spirit, wind, earth, fire and water.

I really enjoyed the first in the series, Elementris, but I couldn't fathom the relationship between the prickly Lyssa and sweet country boy clutch guard Thomas. Where Ava grew and matured before our eyes, Lyssa just seems like a aggressive brat. I love Brea, she's flightly and hyperactive and I'm hoping to see her take a chance on Shaun in the next in the series.

Be warned, there IS a happy ending, but the revelation will leave you feeling dependent and needy for book three.
