The Bookish Best Of... Wherefore art thou book?

What happens when that book you've been waiting to be released... Is never actually released? If you're anything like me, I go hunting for an explanation as to why. Tweeting an author, checking their website, even comments on the unreleased book page on Goodreads. Have you been waiting on a book that is seemingly never going to be released? Today I'm sharing mine...

Nanowrimo. Does it really work?

Underground by Gretchen Powell. The second book in the Terrestrials series. Terra was released back in late 2012 and I absolutely loved it. Incredibly unique, it tells the story of two classes of citizens. The wealthy who live in skybound cities, while the poor and destitute live on the dying earth. It was brilliant, but there's been no news on why it's been delayed apart from a brief post on the authors blog in November 2013 stating
I’ve been a bit lackadaisical in my writing, but that’s all about to change. Bring it November! I'm coming for you.
November of 2013 brought it, but sadly a year later the book still isn't out.

Two Books and a Baby

Stuck By Samantha Durante. The Stitch Trilogy has been a favourite read of mine, with the second installment Shudder having been released in June 2013. The great news is that the author is set to release Stuck during 2015 and I for one can't wait. She can be forgiven for becoming a mummy and not writing the series finale. Only just though.

Lukewarm Bodies?

The untitled Warm Bodies Sequel by Isaac Marion. Warm Bodies was released back in 2010, and the sequel announced in 2012 and we've been waiting ever since. But fear not Zombie lovers, the author has issued a vague update just to keep us all in a state of excitement
I'm about 70% of the way through writing it and expect to finish in early 2015. It's going to be a much bigger book, it's already 60 pages longer than Warm Bodies, and a much bigger story. I'm not ready to say much about the plot yet, but here are a few questions that I've been asking myself since I wrote warm bodies...

What will life be like for R as a new human? How will he fit into society? How will such an alienated social infant handle a romantic relationship? Will he remember his past, and what will that do to the new person he's trying to become?
If I don't see this releasing in 2015, I'm coming for you Isaac Marion.

Here, Have Another Series

Iniquity by Amy A. Bartol. Book five and hopefully the last in The Premonition angel series. Another one where book four was released in 2012, but now the author has seemingly abandoned it. In the meantime, there have been teasers and readers are steered towards her new series instead. The series had been left as three potential suitors for the main character. I need closure, not a shiny new series to distract me. I can't help but feel it's now a marketing ploy after reading this on the author's site.
I also know it's been forever since I published a Premonition series book. It's been almost two years. That's a long time. I know. I'm sorry. Feel free to let me know in the comments your feelings on this. I get at least one person taking me to task for it every day on one or more of my social media sites. It's daunting, but it's doubtless that I deserve it. I have been writing, but it's not always this series that gets my attention...  If you're dying for more from me to fill the time in between the next Premonition book, and you haven't read Under Different Stars yet, here are some links to check it out...
Just give us the finale and allow us to move on.

Not Holding My Breath

Truth by Jus Accardo. I love Jus Accardo, her books are sweet, sassy and entertaining. But I've been waiting for this one through five other releases. I understand that authors don't want to keep working on the same projects, and they're human too believe it or not. I feel for their personal downfalls, but don't expect this one out in 2015 either sadly.
I haven’t given up on Dez and Kale. I promise. I know some people are concerned because I seem to have moved on, but the thing is, I’m a fast writer. I love my job so much, that I find it hard to walk away sometimes. Writing is my escape. My sanity. The Denazen series was originally contracted as three books. Before book three was even written, I’d already finished Darker Days and Rules of Survival, as well as half of Ruined and rough drafts on several others.

Dez and Kale are rooted deep in my heart. Although book 4 was written, I strongly feel like I need to take another look at it. To give you anything but what I believe to be the best would be unfair to you, and them. Because release dates are scheduled in advance, this is why the book will not be out in 2015.
Well, okay then.

STOP! It's Dragon Time

Untitled by Shana Abe. The final book in The Sweetest Dark series. Book two, The Deepest Night was released in August 2013 but still no word on the series finale but a brief snippet from the authors website
The Sweetest Dark Series starts with, of course, The Sweetest Dark. The second book in this series is The Deepest Night. I’m currently writing the third book and no, I’m not telling you the title. Because I haven't figured it out yet.
I loved this series, if you're looking for a dragon themed series, these are far more entertaining than Talon. But we need book three or I'll be forced to start furiously writing letters of complaint.

Where is Incy Wincy?

The Foretelling of Georgie Spider by Ambelin Kwaymullina. Book three in The Tribe series is one of my most anticipated reads. Although it's only been a little over a year since the last installment was released, the date set for the latest book was 2014 according to Goodreads, but with no cover or synopsis, it seems this one is further away than promised.

Give Me Your ARC

Tether by Anna Jarzab. I really enjoyed Tandem and have been eagerly anticipating the sequel all year. Only recently has the title been updated to a 2015 release. But it seems that some reviewers have already receiver advanced copies. I may need to pop over for a friendly chat. Just let me rent a car first.

What 2014 releases have you been anticipating that you're still waiting for?

Next week, the worst dodgy covers of 2014.
It may just be the longest post in history.

  1. Fun post! There seem to be an awful lot of "lost" books/sequels around. I'm actually waiting for a /*drum roll*/ 2012 book that hasn't been released so far...Death and Other Excuses by Jamie Case. The author doesn't even have a site, blog or social media account...so one can't even ask here what's the deal...

    1. Oh wow, I read some of the comments on the book page and it seems to have all completely fallen apart. That's odd too about the author, could they be writing under an pseudonym? Even so, they would have access to a PC and Goodreads, they could always post an update on there. Really odd.

  2. Have you read Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson? It was released back in 2012. I haven't heard anything about a sequel, when it's clear that the book is supposedly a part of a series. A couple of weeks ago, I reached out to the author to tell her how much I loved the book, and I hope that she's continuing, but she never did respond back. You have to understand that I rarely contact an author about their book unless I really, really love them. So I'm even more disappointed that she couldn't be bothered to write a reply.

    Anyway, great post! <3

    1. That's really disappointing Joy. I haven't heard of that one, but looking it up it seems to have just a novella added to the series. Even if she wasn't able to continue writing or perhaps the initial reviews have put her off continuing, it would be nice to have some sort of response from her. Does she have social media accounts or a blog? Might be something hidden amongst them why the series has stalled.

  3. I haven't heard of most of the books you mentioned but I think it would be so devastating if a book I was waiting for never got released. I'm quite excited for next week's topic, Kelly! ;)

    1. The wait is bad enough, but when it gets being pushed back and back with no explanation, it's irritating. Luckily most authors have more respect for their avid fans.

  4. I'm way too scatterbrained to keep track of which books are coming when, so I have to admit that I don't notice when books are delayed usually. I need to figure out a better system so I don't lose track of all the books I want to read!

    1. I usually don't either Nicole, but I've been eagerly awaiting these ones and decided to check them out a few weeks ago to see what the hold up was. I use Goodreads, and as soon as I finish one in the series, if I've enjoyed it I mark the next book to read, otherwise I wouldn't remember either.

  5. LOL, I love the titles you gave these - "Here, have another series!"

*sigh* I do hate it when authors give no mention to when the next book comes out. And then we're waiting for YEARS, sometimes two years!

Two years isn't bad. It's the never coming out that irks me. >_<

    1. I wouldn't mind a two year wait, but it's when there's been no news or very little. A few that were supposed to be released and then no update as to say why, it's irritating at best. It's the quickest way to lose readers I'm afraid.

  6. Thank goodness Isla and the Happily Ever After has finally come out...that one took a while! Same with The Retribution of Mara Dyer. Other than those two, though, I can't really think of any "lost" books that I've been anticipating...

    Thank goodness, really.

    1. I've noticed they tend to be indie releases, as they have the freedom to publish when they want and only have personal deadlines really. The one I'm most pissed about is Amy Bartol. I invested in that series, and she's just decided to leave it and brought out another series altogether. Come on lady, that's just bullshit.

  7. I really enjoyed your post :-) I generally wait till a whole series is published before I read it. I hate that stuck between feeling. Amy A. Bartol's Premonition series is on my list of waiting to be finished so I can read it and has been for some time now lol,

    1. I think you may just be the first person I've spoken to that actually had read that series Sarah. And the way it's been left, I can't help but think it's to avoid having to make Evie choose. It's disappointing to say the least.

  8. The only one here I've read is Warm Bodies which I really enjoyed, I had no idea they were doing a sequel! I did find a novella though but I haven't picked it up so I don't know how it is. Great post Kelly, I hope you get some of these sequels finally.

    1. The sequel's been coming for quite a while now, but alas, I don't think we'll be seeing it any time soon.

I hope so too Jeann, not holding my breath though.

  9. I have literally never heard of any of these books...oops. *Hurries over to Goodreads to check them out and probably add even more books to the virtual TBR.* It's really frustrating as a reader when release dates get pushed back! Personally, there isn't too many "lost" books that I've been waiting on, but the few that come to mind are The Retribution of Mara Dyer (though that's finally out, so all is good in the world of Mara), The Shadow Cabinet by Maureen Johnson which is the third book in her Shades of London trilogy. It was originally supposed to be published this March (I think...I don't know, sometime this year), but now it's due to be released on Febrary 10th in the US...it actually just got published in November in the UK, which I didn't know about, but I presume it'll be in stores here sometime after Christmas. Now, for the book that feels as though I've been waiting a lifetime for...Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray. Now, I completely understand why this book has been pushed back three (?) times now, BUT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOREVER. This is the downside of reading a book during the week of its release. If my memory serves me correctly, LoD was originally due for publication sometime in 2013. It was then pushed back to August of this year and now we're looking at April next year...

    1. You can understand if they're pushed back because of personal reasons, and publishers or authors letting the reading public know. It's just common courtesy really. Do those have confirmed release dates? Even that I could handle, but at least give us something! It completely turns me off reading the authors' other series.

  10. Can I just say that you come up with the most awesome blog post ideas EVER!? :) "Next week, the worst dodgy covers of 2014." <---- Bahaha, so looking forward to this one! xD Honestly I'm really not sure how I feel about a sequel to Warm Bodies! I really liked the way the first one ended, and I'm not sure where the next one will go... but I AM looking forward to it. :)

    1. I'm of the same mind Kara. It ended really well, so not sure how much more we could learn from R's world. But this one is supposedly about the cure spreading among the zombies and them fitting back into a new society. I just wish he'd bring it out already.

  11. Oh, I've actually been thinking what happened after the end of Terra by Gretchen Powell. I read that one in 2012 I think, and while I didn't completely love it, I thought it was a decent one. I thought the second book came out ebcause that's usually how it goes... to see that it hasn't progressed makes me kind of sad. I hope the author gets her groove on soon!.

    1. Me too Faye. Pretty sure I read it as part of a blog tour and really, really enjoyed it. She was writing it at this time last year, but there's been no updates since. I wonder if their first books don't sell as many copies as they'd hope, that some authors just abandon them altogether. I really hope not.

  12. For some reason I thought we were in 2013 and that 2015 was two years ago and I literally had a horrified face while reading some of these promises of a 2015 release hahaha I think it's too late for me...

AND ONCE AGAIN, THE NAMES ARE PERFECTION. I think Two Books and a Baby is my favourite but only just.

C'mon Kelly, don't forget about that Twilight book that was promised like YEARS ago. What happened to that one, huh? And the sequel to The Host. That don't see a future for that one either...

I'm going to prepare my self for a good laugh next week because that topic will be bloody hilarious. I've seen some real duds. Those covers always make me cringe.

Fabulous post, Kelly! I adore this series to bits. They make the end of my week <3

    1. Oh yeah, that was the one that was supposed to be from Edwards point of view wasn't it? The Host was horrid, for my sake I'm glad that seems to be abandoned, but I can understand those who enjoyed book one must be pissed.

I'm a bit worried about being blasted by authors for dissing their shitty covers. Things are certainly going to get interesting.

  13. Oh my gosh, I can't wait for the dodgy covers edition. ;) That is going to be AWESOME. *ahem* Not that I, erm, like making fun of things. Not me. I'm a bundle of happy niceness, aren't I?
    Don't answer that.
I'm still waiting on book 3 of the Faeries series by Maggie Stiefvater. Every year it gets pushed back to "next year" and AHHH I JUST WANT IT ALREADY. I've been waiting....wait for it...
    seven years.

  14. I can't imagine how horrible it would be if you were highly anticipating a certain book and it kept getting pushed back on its release date. *scowls* However, I guess that just makes it more worth reading when it does release, no? Thanks for sharing Kelly, and, as always, BRILLIANT post! ♥ I'm really excited for next week's edition... ;)

  15. I haven't read any of these, but I love the topic, it's one I can really relate to! I'm waiting on books that never seem like they'll release as well. Things taking longer, personal problems, ect - OK, but could you at least release something so we know what's going on and we don't wait around like idiots? Cause' I have no problem doing that all by myself.

    ;)

Look forward to next weeks post! These have so great, Kelly!

    1. Thanks Rebecca.

I know exactly what you mean. I'd love to know one way or the other and not just be left hanging for a sequel or series finale that's never coming. It puts me off an author that they would just completely abandon one series for another with no announcements or explanation.

  19. I was thinking a few months ago that I hadn't seen a new Tribe book out this year which seemed odd, but I'd sort of forgotten about it since. Thanks for reminding me, I like that series.

Also, wasn't a sequel to The Host meant to come out this year? Or was that next year? Not that I had high hopes of it actually coming considering how long it's been since she's written anything, but I would be interested in seeing where she takes that series.
