At twenty two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life: She's in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her;and she's forced to decide what her next move should be.

Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there's something about Sydney that Ridge can't ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.

A passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance, Maybe Someday will immerse readers in Sydney's tumultuous world from the very first page.

Sydney's life lies in ruin. What she thought was the perfect existence, carefree and in love, quickly wakes her up to a harsh reality. Boyfriend Hunter is unfaithful and she now finds herself homeless, drenched and at the mercy of a neighbour who she only knows through his acoustic balcony serenades. But finding herself standing his shared apartment feels surreal and with no where to go, she finds herself reluctantly accepting his offer of a place to stay.

Ridge has watched her from afar for so long, playing his guitar while watching her mouth the words he hasn't yet composed. Through his window, he's seen her boyfriend cheating and couldn't sit idly by while Sydney remained the affectionate girlfriend. She deserves more. In exchange for becoming a fourth roommate, along with porn addict Warren and the abrasive Bridgette, Sydney can live in the shared apartment in exchange for helping Ridge with song lyrics. But Ridge is unlike any other that Sydney has met before, he suffers from profound hearing loss. He relies on sign language, lip reading and text messages that fly between both Sydney and Ridge in what seems to be the beginnings of friendship.

There may be one stipulation that Ridge forgot to mention, Maggie, his girlfriend. Ridge has been with Maggie for over five years. The two live separately and are only able to see one another every other week, but Ridge has no intention of destroying what he and Maggie have, devotion to one another. Despite Maggie, Sydney finds herself enamored by Ridge and refuses to allow herself to become the girl who ruins his relationship, being on the receiving end of heartbreaking deception herself. But it soon becomes clear that Ridge reciprocates those feelings, and the battle to fight their attraction quickly becomes all consuming with a situation that is clearly wrong, feeling so right.

But it's not just attraction that drives them together, and Sydney and Ridge begin to fall in love. Sometimes words can sometimes have a far greater effect on a heart than a kiss.

My Thoughts

Colleen Hoover is an incredible author, she creates what is seemingly two realistic characters and builds a world around them the challenges and empowers, and Maybe Someday may just be Colleen Hoover at her very best. My issue is the fine line of being unfaithful that Ridge treads, in my opinion he definitely crossed that line. Cheating on a partner is more than just being physically involved with another person, it's the emotional bond formed with another person, but found it strange that several characters defined that line as being sexual. Maybe Someday is an experience that left me emotional and incredibly torn. But I applaud an author who isn't afraid of confronting issues and Colleen Hoover always handles the sensitive situations with an incredible amount of care. Unlike the majority of New Adult novels being released, her focus is foremost the storyline, and she skims over any sexual content. Take note authors, this is how you capture the more mature young adult audience, not by creating Erotica masquerading as New Adult.

Maybe Someday focuses on Sydney and Ridge, told in dual points of view. Sydney has just left her boyfriend of two years, after neighbour Ridge tells her that he's been cheating with her roommate. I loved that Sydney left without looking back, and although heartbroken and homeless, she never entertained the thought of taking him back. Although Ridge is in a long term relationship, Sydney begins to fall for him before finding out about Maggie, an omission that Ridge genuinely forgot to share. He only sees Maggie every few weeks and was instantly taken with Sydney, that he had just assumed she knew. In exchange for the free room, all Ridge asks that Sydney help with his songwriting slump, creating words to his compositions. This is where the Maybe Someday soundtrack is introduced.

Colleen Hoover has engaged the talented artist Griffin Peterson, and together they've created the ultimate reader interactive experience. As the two main characters compose, Griffin adds his voice to Maybe Someday's soundtrack, and he's absolutely brilliant. This one is a must have for Colleen Hoover fans and New Adult authors take note, this is what is it to create a well loved storyline that will no doubt outlast any of the crap you're producing.

  1. So glad you loved this, Kelly! And I'd have to agree that an emotional bond is borderline cheating. But that happens between friends, too, right? Unless they act on it, then there's nothing there. Hoover ruined me when it comes to musical books. I would always look for a soundtrack now!

    1. I usually despise books with playlists, I can't say I've ever bothered to look the actual songs up. But having it's own original soundtrack was an awesome experience. Griffin is an incredible talent.

    1. I listed to the soundtrack throughout the book as Sydney and Ridge were composing, it certainly heightened the experience. Next time you're thinking of rereading, you have to try it Abby, it was brilliant.

  4. Bravo, bravo! And I agree, NA should NOT be based solely on erotica - there's already a genre for it, so please stick to it authors! I'm embarrassed to admit that I still haven't picked up a Colleen Hoover book yet, but your review has definitely convinced me I need to! Like you, I define cheating as emotional rather than physical. Just the idea of cheating hits a little too close to home for me, so I know I'll need to get the tissues ready! Hehe, brilliant use of the gif, it was such a good way to end off a wonderful review. xx

  5. I definitely agree! I loved this book a lot. But with the soundtrack as its partner. It was a knockout. Griffin's voice is soooooo beautiful <3. But I agree this is her best yet, though I think all of Colleen's works are beautiful :D

    1. I couldn't agree more Jules. She's one of the few New Adult branded authors that bucks the trend of writing mindless erotic crap. I simply love her. So glad you enjoyed it as well.

  6. It's good to hear about a new adult title that actually focuses on a storyline (Imagine that!) and not just sex. I agree that cheating is more than just the physical, so I'm not sure how much I'd like Ridges character.

    1. I had the same issue, to me it's still being unfaithful no matter how it's packaged. But regardless of the moral dilemma, the book is still brilliant. I hope you enjoy this one too. Looking forward to your thoughts.

    1. I've been a CoHo fan (love that) since reading Slammed, and read everything she's brought out since. Isn't he just brilliant. She's the female equivalent of John Green. I'm always surprised when someone mentions that they haven't read any of her books, I mean, how could you not. They're brilliant. We're such fangirls Jeann.
