Two months after dying, seventeen-year-old witch Graylee Perez wakes up in her twin sister Charlene’s body.
Until
Gray finds a way back inside her own body, she’s stuck being Charlene
every twenty-hour hours. Her sister has left precise instructions on how
Gray should dress and behave. Looking like a prep isn’t half as bad as
hanging out with Charlene’s snotty friends and gropey boyfriend.
The 'normals' of McKinley High might be quick to write her behavior off as
post-traumatic stress, but warlock Raj McKenna is the only person who
suspects Gray has returned from the dead.
Now Gray has to solve
the mystery of her death and resurrection and disentangle herself from
Charlene’s body before she disappears for good
Graylee Perez is the model citizen, hardworking student at McKinley High School, honourable witch of the local Coven, and identical twin sister of the self absorbed, emotionally unstable Charlene. Charlene is the epitome of the self appreciative, malicious mean girl, caring for no one but herself. So when Charlene's boyfriend ends the relationship, only to be seen with the ever popular Stacey Morehouse a short time later. After jumping from the school building become a farce, Operation Win Back Boyfriend ensues.
Raj is the kind of warlock that doesn't play by the rules... Apparently. According to local coven gossip, his mother had left the family home with little sister, leaving Raj and his father in the ramshackle home, having driven his father to alcoholism and Raj being accused of arson. Raj has watched Graylee from afar for years, it's a shame that the once gifted witch wont date a warlock. But Graylee has bigger problems than a superficial crush, after discovering her evil twin has been deliberately blocking her magical prowess, leaving Graylee feeling betrayed and wondering what else her sinister sister has been up to.
But it seems Greylee's life is no longer her own. After being found dead two months prior, Greylee finds herself sharing the body of twin sister Charlene. Resurrected at the instruction of her grieving mother, a ritual of illegal black magic used to bring her soul back to life, but somehow the ritual fell askew. Now the once quiet student exchanges with Charlene each morning at 3:00am, presumably her time of death. But it seems life has moved on in Greylee's absence. Sister Charlene is now back with her former boyfriend, with Stacey now hospitalised in a coma as a result of a strange car accident. The only one never having given up hope, is Raj. Raj can see through Charlene's facade and Graylee confides in the young warlock that she is trapped in her twin's body.
Charlene is dangerous, deciding to purge her sister from her body, condemning her ti the afterlife for once and for all. Time is running out, can Greylee transfer her soul to a new body before Charlene attempts to killed again?
The concept of Entanglement was unique and unlike anything that I've read before, black magic transferring the essence of a deceased sister, to share the body of the remaining evil twin, alternating time spent within the human vessel. The two girls are polar opposites, so the reader will have no trouble determining which personality belongs to which girl. But sadly, it felt incomplete. I struggled with the fact that Charlene was not only suicidal, but her family feared that she was more than capable to hurting another girl. It felt not only skimmed over, but rather than address the girl's violent mental state, the mother awards her with a new outfit to win back her boyfriend, excusing that it'll distract her.
If Charlene was created to be less dangerous, it would have been far more feasible. Apart from the mentally unstable, murderous girl, I really enjoyed it. It left far more questions than answers, and that may be the incentive you need to continue with the series.
