Stacking The Shelves and Weekly Wrap #028

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical stores or online bookshops, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course eBooks. Hosted by Tyngas Reviews.

News

●  This week, the Aussie YA Bloggers group produced it's first newsletter. You've still got time to subscribe to our monthly newsletter here, but for those of you who missed our July edition, check it out here.
●  Harper Collins Australia set our Twitter feeds alight when they announced that they would be publishing Isla and the Happily Ever After. A huge scoop for the brilliant publisher.

●  I've been laughing all week at a new phrase I picked up from the brilliant Belle who shared this, leading to this. Lady boner indeed.
●  And I loved Buzzfeed's Book Benches.

'Round the Blogs

●  Both this superhero and these spuds are showing us around the new Tin Tin store in Manilla.
●  The Deadly Darlings are looking for a coblogger. A great way to experience blogging.
●  Francine at The Not So Literary Heiresses blogs about improving book to movie adaptations.
●  Larissa at YA Midnight Reads tells us all about herself, survey style.
●  Ely shares her friendship with Chami over at A Book so Fathomless. Super cute.
●  The Notebook Sisters invite you to come and play with them. Grab your party hats.
●  Laura at Laura Plus Books has reached a thousand Bloglovin' followers. Hooray!
●  and if there is only one blog post you read this week, make it this one. Gina at Behind The Pages has asked three bloggers and a publisher, for their response to the Slate article in which adults who read young adult should feel ashamed. Add a comment and have your say.

Publisher Paperbacks

The Astrologer's Daughter by Rebecca Lim. Her mother is an astrologer and Avicenna has inherited her gift. When her mother goes missing, the police are of little help and finds an ally in the brooding Simon Thorn. This one sounds unique and utterly fantastic. A young adult mystery thriller with a dose of romance, I can't wait to get stuck into this one. Thank you to Text Publishing.
●  The Special by David Stavanger. A compilation of witty and thought provoking poems, I was thrilled when this one arrived by surprise this week. I love poetry and books told in verse and this one looks quirky and dramatic. Thank you to the University of Queensland Press.
●  Heat and Light by Ellen Van Neervan. Told in three parts, this award winning novel looks brilliant. It's not my typical read, but that's what I love about receiving unsolicited novels, they force you out of your comfort zone and to discover new worlds. Thanks again to the University of Queensland Press.

Purchased Paperbacks & Hardcovers

●  Once again, I couldn't resist a bargain and lately, I'm all about the classics. I've added another two Penguin Threads to my library, Wind in The Willows which is a classic and much loved children's tale, and Black Beauty. I love these collectors editions.
●  Penguin really do seem to have the prettiest range of special editions, and their clothbound hardcover series are stunning. Designed by Coralie Bickford Smith, I purchased A Christmas Carol and other Christmas Writings, Persuasion and Hard Times to add to my collection.
●  You would have thought Penguin Australia were sponsoring this weeks post, but I also picked up the film editions of Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights.

What are you stacking your shelves with this week?

Thanks Kate. I love being able to have all our blogging information and big publisher releases in the one spot, and delivered to your inbox means we all save time not having to go searching ourselves. Not to bad for a first edition, August will be even better.

  2. I really want to get some of Austen's novels in those pretty hardcover editions. They look too good to not get. I also received The Astrologers Daughter--never heard but I have heard of the author's other books which weren't so well received so I'm a bit wary. I hope you enjoy it though!

Have a brilliant week, Kels! <33

I hadn't heard of the author before receiving a copy this week either. I'm hoping that going into it blind, I might really enjoy it. I'd love to see what you think of it.

  9. So, wait, can you actually FEEL those penguin books? Because I want a feely book. I think it sucks that only toddlers get touch-and-feel books, because honestly, they're the most fun.

I have the Astrologer's Daughter too! I'm kind of excited....don't usually read that kind of book but HEY. IT'S PURTY.

    1. You totally can. They have a thread link raised texture, you could just strike the pretty covers all day. The Pages are even ratty to give it the whole touchy feely experience.
