The Redemption Of Callie & Kayden By Jessica Sorensen

The dark secret Kayden has kept hidden for years is finally out. Worse, he's facing charges for battery. The only way to clear his name is for Callie to speak up, something he'll never ask her to do. Instead, he'll do whatever he must to protect her, even if it means letting go of the only girl he's ever loved.

Callie knows Kayden is going back to his dark place and desperately wants to save him. But that means admitting her own painful secrets aloud. The thought of breaking her silence terrifies her, but not as much as the thought of losing Kayden forever. Can she convince him they can make a fresh start together, or is she already too late?

Callie knows that Kayden is broken, but she never realised he self harmed... Or didn't want to believe it. As he recovers in hospital, Callie can't stop from replaying those horrific images of Kayden and his life bleeding away. Callie blames herself for being the one who has sealed Kayden's fate, trying to unleash his own brand of justice on the man that ruined Callie's life, Caleb. But now several weeks have passed, and Callie still hasn't seen Kayden. His mother insisting that he is considered as high risk, after he supposedly attempted suicide, no doubt protecting Kayden's abusive and torturous father, caring only for her own social standing, than the safety of her sons. Callie is dealing with her own demons, the monster who stole her innocence firmly in the back of her mind and still ruling her fear. She wants to tell her family what Caleb did, but Caleb being brother Jackson's best friend, Callie is scared that no one will believe her.

Kayden is recovering, but the mental anguish of what happened that night is sliding him into a world of depression and wanting to mutilate himself. Caleb is pressing changes, and his mother refuses to speak about what his father has done. He needs Callie, but she deserves more than he can offer her and someone who isn't broken beyond repair. He's finally hit rock bottom and he'll be damned if he takes his sweet Callie down with him. But to her credit, Callie won't give him up without a fight, and it seems that the two have more in common than he realises... She understands what it feels like to hurt.

With Luke and Seth for moral support, Callie and Kayden are whisked away from the tension and to rekindle the love they both feel they've lost. Kayden is trying to work through his self hatred with councilor Doug, but he can't bring himself to admit that his father tried to take Kayden's life. Not to Doug, not to Callie and not to himself. Callie won't allow herself to believe that the rumors are true, that Kayden tried to take his own life. He wouldn't knowingly leave her. Callie has her own secret, that she purges her body from the vile feelings she holds inside, and it's a chance to breathe again when she shares how fractured her paper thin hide is, that she'll always feel like twelve year old Callie who was ruined by someone her family nurtures and cares for.

The only way the two can recover, is by confronting their demons they both fought so hard from resurfacing. Can they both find their happily ever after, while learning to free themselves from their abusive pasts?

The Redemption Of Callie And Kayden picks up where the first book in the series left off, with Kayden's physically abusive father trying to destroy Kayden. His secret is finally out, and Callie now knows that he self mutilates to ease his pain. The two are irrevocably broken, but their Redemption does have a happy ending, but first they must battle their demons... Alone.

The Coincidence series isn't for the faint of heart, as the characters experience both physical, mental and sexual abuse. It's raw and confronting, but sadly realistic. Jessica Sorensen is brilliant in creating lovable, yet realistic characters that readers can relate to. I would love to read Luke's story and fingers crossed that Jessica will tell his tale.

  1. I really want to read this one, thanks for your rundown. Sounds really raw and a bit dark too

    1. Hey Jeann, it really is. I generally don't rate new adult books all that highly, as they all seem pretty much the same, but The Coincidence is just so much more realistic and darker, rather than the typical male dominance and creepy possession that seems the new adult norm.

  2. I like this series better than Micha and Ella's story. I think this has more depth, and yes, it is darker.

    1. Me too Dre. They are both pretty much the same series, apart from the different characters and settings. But you're right, Callie and Kayden is the more mature series, the characters seem more developed too.
