What does it mean when your school is voted the most dangerous in America? It's time to kick some hellion butt...
After not really surviving her junior year (does 'undead' count as survival), Kaylee Cavanaugh has vowed to take back her school from the hellions causing all the trouble. She's going to find a way to turn the incarnations of Avarice, Envy and Vanity against one another in order to protect her friends and finish this war, once and forever.
But then she meets Wrath and understands that she's closer to the edge than she's ever been. And when one more person close to her is taken, Kaylee realizes she can't save everyone she loves without risking everything she has....
Kaylee is determined to lead a normal life, as a living dead girl, as she's affectionately known. But when the demon who wants to possess her soul, takes her father hostage, there is nothing she won't do to have him safely returned from the Netherworld.
Emma is having her own crisis, since taking over the body of psychiatric patient at Lakeside, Lydia. She now has Lydia's ability, to siphon the feelings of others and take them as her own. Her sister is pregnant with the spawn of mister Beck, the incubus sex demon... The former teacher who slashed Kaylee. Nash and Sabine are still together behind closed doors, but in public, they dance around one another, neither wanting to admit how they feel for the other. Sophie is still vain and clueless, but with Luca as a buffer, the gang can tolerate her now... But only just.
They need to formulate a plan. Avari is he'll bent on owning and torturing Kaylee's soul for eternity, but Kaylee has a new acquaintance, Ira, the demon of wrath. But she knows never to make a deal with a demon, right?
Two of the characters are hurt and being hunted in the Netherworld, so when Avari starts possessing students again, Kaylee knows time is running out. Will she give Avari what he wants most to save those she loves?
I've enjoyed the Soul Screamers series. It's unique storyline of banshees that sing to release the souls from the deceased. I've never cared for Kaylee's character, she always seems to make her own rules and decisions, but berates others for doing the same. The other main characters such as Tod, Nash and Emma are likeable and keep the series interesting.
The final in the Soul Screamers series feels longer than the former titles in the series, and the first half feels practically uneventful and painfully slow, it isn't until two characters find themselves in trouble that the action finally begins. We also see snippets of Kaylee's relationship with Tod and Nash still feeling betrayed... But will he move on?
But there is a definite ending for fans who have followed Kaylee and her friends since the beginning, one that the majority of readers will more than thrilled with. Thanks to Rachel Vincent for bringing the banshee to life on our pages.
