The Diva Weekender #005

Bit frazzled this week, so I'm leaving it your capable hands to link me up to your news and features over the last seven days. For those of you who've visited, I'll be blog hopping over the weekend to catch up on all your comments and reviews. If you follow me on Twitter, you would have seen that after I thought my hard drive issues were sorted, it happened again and needed to buy a new hard drive this time, rather than just format the old one.

Still updating and downloading drivers, but will be back next week with a double edition of 'Round The Blogs.

Publisher Review Paperbacks

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick. A riveting romantic thriller set against the treacherous backdrop of the mountains of Wyoming. Where falling in love should never be that dangerous. Even with a dodgy looking cover, I'm really excited to read this one. Critics who didn't enjoy her Hush Hush series have even enjoyed this one. Thanks to Simon and Schuster Australia
Otherbound by Corinne Duyvis. Said to be a brilliant and diverse paranormal romance that will get your heart racing. A lovely letterbox surprise and in hardback too. Thank you to Thames and Hudson Australia.

Purchased

●  Dangerous Girls by Abigail Hass. Everyone who's anyone has been raving about how incredible this book is, so naturally I'm curious to see for myself. I'm hoping it lives up to all the hype.
●  Golden by Jessi Kirby. I needed a final read for our Aussie Goodreads Group with the name of a metal or alloy in the title, and I'm thrilled I picked this one up. It was incredible. Review will be posted sometime this week.
●  Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins. I adored Anna, I loved Lola and now I'm only a quarter of the way through Isla and it's adorable! Loving it so far.
●  Raging Star by Moira Young. The third and final book in the Dust Lands trilogy. One of the most brilliant post apocalyptic dystopians ever released. Can't wait to get started with this one.

Hit me up with your news, reviews or poke me if I haven't visited you this week.

  1. Ooh, I loved Dangerous Girls! I read Dangerous Boys this week and was disappointed, I was expecting it to be better. Everyone seems to love it though so maybe it's just me. I still need to read Isla, I've had it on my shelf for over a week now and not grabbed it. Maybe my brain is trying for that delayed gratification thing?

    1. I was going to put of reading Isla too, but just couldn't help myself. I always seem to wait out reading series finales as long as possible, because so many of them have just let me down. I just finished it and overall I really enjoyed it.

But absolutely can't wait to get stuck into Dangerous Boys. I'll delayed buying Dangerous Girls for a while, as this one seemed like the more explosive book that everyone agrees on.

  2. I've heard about this hard drive malfunction! I would've thrown a fit if that was me in your position. I hope everything works out this time. Black Ice looks good. I'll keep my fingers crossed it works out for you. I cannot wait to get my hands on Dangerous Boys and Isla! It's really good to hear that you're enjoying Isla. It just makes me more eager to read it. Have a great weekend, lovely! (:

    1. Thanks Sarah. Oh, the hard drive left me wanting to tear my hair out, thankfully I didn't store much on the laptop after the last failure, but now that I have a new hard drive, although a little slower, it seems to be back to almost brand new. It's only three years old and I'd like to avoid having to buy a new one just yet.

    1. I've been lucky up until now, but two failures within three weeks of one another, it's lucky that I didn't throw it out the window. The new hard drive seems to have sorted it all out now, fingers crossed. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Yay for Dangerous Girls! I bought it too, and then read it a day or something. Actually, I finished it in class. My review of it will be up on Monday :D I hope you enjoy it!! Hyped books often disappoint me but this one certainly did not. Now I just have to get Dangerous Boys :P Oooh, I've heard a lot about Golden too. And oh my gosh, I absolutely LOVED Isla. I feel like reading the first two again now, haha.

Have a great week and I hope your hard drive stuff gets sorted :D

    1. Thanks Emily.

I think Dangerous Boys is one of the most recommended books for me so far this year, along with We Were Liars. I think it's year of the suspense thriller. I can't wait to get stuck into it and looking forward to your review.

    1. Thanks poppet. I'm hoping for the same thing actually. But Hush Hush was so well loved, but it just wasn't for me. But seeing readers that didn't enjoy that series actually really enjoy Black Ice, looks like we're onto a winner.

  6. Ahhhh all these books are great! I've been meaning to get Dangerous Girls because of all the hype too! And tell me how Otherbound goes! I'm kind of mixed when it comes to it because I just don't know haha. Not enough motivation for me to read it yet!

HAVE FUN READING ALL OF THESE KELLY :D

    1. It's a gorgeous looking book though, it's always a surprise when I receive a hardback review copy, they're always more special. I'm looking forward to reading it though, I love fantasy paranormal fusions, they always tend to blend beautifully.

  7. I loved Dangerous Girls so I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did! Golden was pretty good too, if I'm recalling correctly. And yay for Isla! Very eager to see how you feel about the book - partly because I'm almost expecting the finale to be the downfall of the whole series. It's happened too many times for me to ignore the fact.

Hope you have a great weekend! :D

    1. I know exactly how you feel Naban, I've put off reading so many finales because so many before those have ruined the entire series for me, especially the Divergent series. That was painful. I finished Isla last night and still need to review it, but it was good. Not as great as Anna and the French Kiss, but far superior to Lola and the Boy Next Door. And it had a lovely ending, I actually teared up. Nothing to worry about with that one, it was a more than decent ending to the series.

I'm actually wondering if it's really the end though, or if we'll see another.

  8. I got Black Ice in my mailbox as well and since I did enjoy the Hush Hush series, I'm really looking forward to what Becca Fitzpatrick has done next. I loved Golden as well, it definitely lived up to being an impressive YA contemporary read with some beautiful writing. Of course, there's Isla! I'm so pumped to read it after seeing all the hype, I just need to get to Lola and the Boy Next Door :) So many great books here Kelly, enjoy!

    1. You could probably even skip Lola, it's not as engaging as Anna and now Isla, and Isla can be read as a standalone too. I'm looking forward to starting Black Ice as well and see how her style of writing has matured from the Hush Hush series. The premise sounds brilliant doesn't it. I think I'll really enjoy it.

  9. I was scared for Isla because of all the hype. But after reading it, I realized I was scared for nothing. Not only did it live up to the hype, it surpassed all my expectations. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. :)

    1. I did Joy and felt the same before I started it. it's the dreaded curse of the finale, so many have completely ruined a series for me, that now I automatically brace myself for disappointment. But I really enjoyed it too.

      Thanks for stopping by Joy.

  10. DANGEROUS GIRLS! DANGEROUS GIRLS! DANGEROUS GIRLS! YEAH KELLY! You've got to read it - it is absolutely amazing and probably the best book I've read this year so far! I look forward to seeing what you think of!

And I read Golden a little while back and really enjoyed it. So glad to hear you did too! I'll be on the lookout for your review! :D

Thanks for sharing, and happy reading! <3

  11. OMGGG YESSS! I am so glad that you finally got Dangerous Girls Kelly, I can't wait to see what you think of it! Prepare for a mind fuck that is crazzzy! Glad to hear you love the Dust Lands series, I haven't heard much about it tbh.

    1. Oh, I'm really looking forward to it Jeann. I've seen so many of you flailing over the brilliance that is Dangerous Girls and simply had to have it.

The Dust Lands series is incredible! Saba, the main character is so tough and sassy, she's far superior to Katniss. You have to pick up Blood Read Road, book one, It'll remind you of Fire Country.

  12. Oh, I haven't read the Dustlands series yet, although I'm really looking forward to it now :) Whoo! Let's read Dangerous Girls together!

    Happy Reading :)

I love the Dust Lands series, I'm surprised more readers haven't seen much of it around actually. It's one of the most brilliant post apocalyptic dystopians around. I think I even enjoyed it more than the Hunger Games on a few levels and so incredibly unique as well.

  13. Wow when did you get your new blog design? It looks great! I almost didn't recognize your blog once I arrived as it looked so different and I wondered if I was at the right blog.
I've heard some good things about Golden and I plan to buy the first book in the Anna and the french kiss series eventually, I heard so many people rave about Isla these past few weeks.
Have a great week and enjoy your new books!
