Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father, polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

Anna barely escaped the summit in New York with her life, it was the last time she had seen Kaiden.

Anna's mother is an angel and her father is the demon duke of addiction. She is a rare commodity among her fellow Nephilim and is being watched by dark spirits, to see that she carries out her father's work. She has turned from the shy and compassionate Anna, into a party girl, encouraging others to drink and dabble in drugs.

It's been months since she had seen or heard from Kaiden, the son of the demon of lust. So when the two finally cross paths, it is enough to shatter any hope that their forbidden attraction could be salvaged.

After a visit from a holy spirit, Anna learns of her prophecy, to rid earth of all demons, to free their Nephilim children from the work of their fathers. Anna knows how dangerous the situation is and needs to enlist allies. Her father sends her far and wide, with Kope by her side, to gain support from the Nephilim children of the dukes. What she didn't count on was Kope wanting more from their friendship.

Anna needs to see Kaiden, to tell him the holy prophecy. Spending time with he and Blake. With heartbreak fresh on her mind and the threat of realty looming, will Kaiden finally drop his guard and reveal his colours before it's too late?

I've been anticipating the release of Sweet Peril as soon as I had finished reading the first in the Sweet Evil series. The angel, demon and Nephilim storyline has been well used in young adult novels, but the difference in the Sweet Evil series is Kaiden. He's tormented and lost and the glimpses of vulnerability make him attractive to readers. Humorous in parts, but Sweet Peril is clearly more so a novel intended to lead up to a dramatic and epic showdown in the final of the series.

    1. Hi Ellen and thanks for stopping by.

Anything featuring Kaiden is always a winner in my book. I'm already anticipating the final in the series.
