You beaut, it's Aussie month.
This month I'm thrilled to be reading the best and brightest that Aussie talent has to offer the young adult world. All authors are either home grown Aussies, or adopted Aussies calling our shores home. So this month I'll be reading young adult favourites such as Melina Marchetta, John Marsden, Cath Crowley and Craig Silvey and showcasing upcoming authors such as Claire Zorn and Sean Williams.
Included this month will be:
I still haven't read On The Jellicoe Road, but I adore Looking For Alibrandi! Another of my favourite Australian YA books is It's Not All About You, Calma! by Barry Jonsberg.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I haven't read either yet, but looking forward to getting around to them. I'll have to see if Amazon have It's Not All About You, thanks for the recommendation. This is probably my most ambitious themed month so far, I had no idea how many Aussie novels I had on my list.
DeleteYay great feature, I look forward to it! I just recently read On the Jellicoe Road and I guess I just couldn't get into it. I have The Accident and Finding Home to read too, I didn't know that one was from an aussie author.
ReplyDeleteJeann @ Happy Indulgence
Hey Jeann, I tried to read it previously too, but couldn't get into it at the time either. It's received so many awesome reviews though, so I wanted to try again. I've already finished (haven't yet reviewed) The Sky So Heavy by Claire Zorn, and it was brilliant. Not only was it a frightening realistic view of an apocalyptic Australia, but the social message about exclusion and how we treat others will stay with me, it was a real eye opener.
DeleteAussie novels are so easy to relate to, they are generally really genuine and I think we can relate to the characters more.
I seriously LOVE On the Jellicoe Road. I've read Looking for Alibrandi too, and I love it maybe a little less than JR, but it was still brilliant. I've read Jasper Jones, and it was pretty good. Love your feature! (Coming from a non-aussie lol).
ReplyDeleteHey Summer and thanks for popping in.
DeleteI think I'll need to move Jellicoe Road up the list a bit. I was looking over reviews from my friends list (including your one), and I can't remember the last book I'd come across that was universally loved like that.
Have you seen the Looking For Alibrandi movie? http://aso.gov.au/titles/features/looking-alibrandi/
